The City of Lake Stevens is seeking your help to improve local knowledge about drainages, streams, and the wild places of Lake Stevens so we can better plan for the future. Our Environmental Programs Division of Public Works is preparing a plan that will, in part, improve water quality and available fish habitat to support salmon. We are basing this on a fish habitat model that needs input by citizens who are aware of drainage issues or have concerns about certain streams.
What do we need from you? Please access The Healthy Streams, Heathy Fish Community Input Map and add your comments about known concerns, areas that should be preserved or other information you think would help the city through this planning effort.
Why are salmon important to Lake Stevens? Salmon are more than just fish. When salmon thrive, it means our streams and lakes are clean and healthy. They’re also part of our culture, economy, and recreation, supporting fishing, boating, and time in nature. Every drop of water flowing from the City of Lake Stevens is important to the life of salmon in the Snohomish River and Puget Sound.
What is the City’s fish habitat model, and how will it help? The City is creating a science-based map of salmon habitat guided by “framing questions”, which are simple but important questions like: Where are streams most damaged? Where can floodplains be reconnected? Which areas should we protect for the future? The answers show where salmon need the most help and where the community will see the biggest benefits. The model results will guide growth, stormwater planning, and restoration so projects improve salmon habitat, reduce flooding, and keep our water clean.

What else can residents do to help? Plant and protect trees along streams for shade and cleaner water. Reduce lawn chemicals and car wash runoff. Engage with the project – introduce the webapp to your friends. Support rain gardens and other stormwater retrofits. Lastly, take the Pledge to Protect Lake Stevens through everyday choices to improve water quality.
Thank you for your interest in this project! The Lake Stevens Plan for Salmonid Basins is supported with funding from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act. Information about the CCA is available at www.climate.wa.gov.
