The City and Last Leaf Production are bringing two free family-friendly events for Theater in the Park at Eagle Ridge Park in Lake Stevens; Shakespeare on Sunday, August 22 at 4:00 pm and Hercules and the Golden Apple on Sunday, August 29, at 4:00 pm. Bring your own seating and food to create your own picnic in the park while you enjoy these performances:

Shakespeare 101

Four actors take the audience along on a journey that is a fun collection of famous and some not so famous scenes from Shakespeare's plays - sort of Shakespeare's Greatest Hits - plus, tidbits about his life, his loves, and Elizabethan theatre.  An energetic and non-stop performance that will have the audience learn, break down and explore the diversity and flexibility of the works.  Fun for novice and expert alike!  

The performance is approximately 1 hour.

Hercules and the Golden Apple – (Theater for young audiences) 

An original musical about the Greek hero, Hercules, and his quest to perform the eleventh of his famous twelve labors.  Because of a horrible trick played on Hercules by his nemesis and stepmother, Hera, Hercules is required by his cousin, Eurystheus, and the Oracle of Delphi to perform ten trials to regain his honor and his soul.  

When he returns to his cousin’s palace after the tenth successful trial, Hera tricks him again.  Hercules is told two of the ten trials didn’t count and he still needs to complete two more.  Hera and Eurystheus put their heads together to come up with a task they are sure Hercules won’t be able to do - retrieve two golden apples from the magic tree that grows in Hera’s secret garden.  No one knows where the garden is, plus the tree is guarded by a hundred-headed dragon**. They’re sure Hercules will fail. It doesn’t look promising, but with Athena’s help and some good luck, our hero might just succeed. 

It’s filled with fun musical numbers, comic mythical characters, and audience interaction.  

** No dragons are harmed during the performance
