[ARCHIVED] October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

On October 25, 1988, President Ronald Regan declared October National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, to recognize the unique grief of bereaved parents and demonstrate support to the many families who have suffered such a tragic loss.
Promoting awareness of pregnancy and infant loss not only increases the likelihood that grieving families will receive understanding and support but will result in improved education and prevention efforts which may ultimately reduce the incidence of these tragedies.
Today, October 15th, marks World Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. People around the world are encouraged to light a candle between 7 pm and 8 pm their local time as part of the International Wave of Light. Candles will remain burning across the globe for a full 24 hours on behalf of all the babies gone too soon.
Mayor Gailey will recognize National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month at the October 26 City Council Meeting.
