[ARCHIVED] Heavy Rains Affect The City Stormwater System

Image of storm drain filled with leaves

With upcoming atmospheric river events, the function of our stormwater system is critical. We have these requests of city residents:

  1. Please do not rake leaves into the street. We need to keep the storm drains clear.
  2. If you can do it safely, we appreciate you keeping leaves clear from a storm drain near your house.
  3. If you notice something out of order in our drainage that may need to be addressed, you may create an entry at the Public Works Service Request Portal. We read these frequently and it is our priority to respond.
  4. For flooding, illegal dumping into drains and streams, or after-hours urgent stormwater requests, please dial 911 and the appropriate staff will be notified promptly.

We have general information about the City’s surface water and stormwater systems at the Surface Water Program webpage.  As a reminder, please do not wash any spills or soap into the storm drains. This is a violation of City codes and impacts our water quality.  Remember, only rain in the drain!

Thanks! from the Surface Water Team
