The City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the highly anticipated West Lake Park and Bayview Trail on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The groundbreaking ceremony included remarks from city officials, and the ceremonial shovel dig to mark the beginning of construction. Attendees had the opportunity to view renderings of the park and trail design.

The West Lake Park and Bayview Trail project is made possible through funding from the city's pandemic recovery, park mitigation, and real estate excise tax revenues. The first phase of the Bayview Trail construction started July 29, 2024, with an estimated end day in November 2024, this also includes the construction of the parking lot, benches, and dog park at West Lake Park.
