As the July 4th holiday approaches, we want to ask residents to use extreme caution if they plan to use fireworks. Extreme temperatures are causing drier-than-normal conditions, which make fires a real danger to homes. Instead, celebrate with glow sticks and bubbles, or even consider watching a fireworks display by trained professionals in Everett, Arlington, or Monroe.
In Lake Stevens, you can set off legal fireworks from 9 a.m. to midnight only on July 4. The City of Lake Stevens will be asking residents if they want to end fireworks use through an advisory vote planned for the November General Election ballot. This is a result of the complaints, injuries, fires, and illegal usage of fireworks in the city. An advisory vote is non-binding, but it gives Council an idea of public opinion.
Please rethink using fireworks, and be safe this holiday. Thank you for your consideration.
Mayor Brett Gailey, Lake Stevens
Chief Kevin O’Brien, Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue
