The Washington State Department of Transportation will award a contract for four roundabouts to be constructed to help traffic flow through the City of Lake Stevens. The project is to be completed by the end of 2023.
This summer, two roundabouts are scheduled for construction. The first roundabout is at 91st Avenue N.E. and Vernon Road. The 2nd roundabout is at N. Davies Road and Vernon/Frontage Roads intersection. This project has involved multiple state and federal agencies, and an extensive permitting process to ensure wetlands are protected. It also has involved real estate purchases and relocating utilities so there is adequate right of way.
WSDOT anticipates the two larger roundabouts for the intersection of State Routes 9 and 204 will be constructed in 2023.
There will be one extended weekend closure this year. Two additional extended weekend closures are planned for next year. WSDOT is planning a public meeting for interested parties at a future date. Project status is regularly updated on WSDOT’s SR 9/SR 204 project webpage.

As part of a broader effort to improve safety and manage traffic congestion, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is building a roundabout at the intersection of SR 9 and South Lake Stevens Road in Lake Stevens.
South Lake Stevens Road will be closing Friday, February 25th to support the roundabout project. Detour signs will be in place to guide traffic around the closure. More details about affected sections will be released soon.
The City of Lake Stevens remains committed to keeping the community informed of traffic pattern changes, progress, and updates to this project; this post will be maintained as information becomes available from WSDOT. Visit the WSDOT project page for more information and contact for project-related questions.
