September is the start of #PugetSoundStartsHere Month! Puget Sound Starts Here is an awareness campaign for best practices that help improve water quality, and ultimately protect our lakes, streams, and Puget Sound.
This month’s campaign is focused on Car Care. Pollutants from cars and car care pose a significant risk to the waters and wildlife. DIY car washing, leaking oil, and tires are three sources of car pollutants that can be addressed by you! Everyone can participate in best practices to reduce the amount of pollution that ends up in our waterways from cars.
Research shows that the newly discovered toxic chemical associated with tires (6PPD-quinone) is the reason large numbers of salmon are dying in Northwest creeks before they have a chance to spawn.
